Diane
Tchakirides, Dina Lydia Johnson, and Monica Cavagnaro met at the Highland
Park Summit in March 07.
We
were inspired to to engage the artistic residents of our community,
and encourage a budding younger generation of artists.
Exciting creative
outlets are especially important for young people at risk of anti-social
activities. Schools and families can't always provide these.

Highland
Park Arts will link to creative
opportunities in other parts of West Seattle, and promote others here
in the neighborhood. For instance, the planned White Center Cultural
Center at Cambridge and 18th Ave SW will be a wonderful resource for
our neighborhood as well. More to come about that.
Ideas
for children and adults:
-
Weekend
arts and crafts exhibits
-
Multi-cultural
potlucks and performances
- Workshops
experimenting with things like collage or performing skills
- Talent
shows, maybe several times a year
- Revolving
galleries with co-operating venues
- Webpages
highlighting neighborhood artisans or poets
-
Contests
for T-shirt designs or mural designs
