March 12th - Delridge renovated Playfield re-opens 4458 Delridge Way. Celebration 12:30 - 2:30. Many sports are now possible on this much-improved complex.

At our next meeting March 23rd the project managers for our new Westcrest Park will be on hand to discuss the project. The work on Cloverdale as the entry road may be a concern to neighbors. All are welcome.
WESTCREST
PARK MAINTENANCE— CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
Rory Denovan (left) from Seattle Parks
and Mike Shellenberger, Forest Steward, asked neighbors to donate time
to clear evasive plants from Westcrest Park and to plant over 500 Northwest
native species to replace the dying West Seattle greenbelt. The first
work parties are March 12 & 15, 10am-2pm: Sign in at earthcorps.org/volunteer.php

signs. This is a great project; join your neighbors and help leave a
legacy for future generations.
BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: ZIPPY'S BURGERS
The proprietors of popular Highland Park restaurant Zippy's Giant Burgers, Blaine and Rahel (left), announced their upcoming move to nearby White Center, 14th and Roxbury.
They offered two raffle prizes: a meal coupon for two and a sweatshirt. They answered questions about menu items and changes at the new location. The best burgers at the best prices (including veggie burgers) will continue, with a new item— homemade french fries— planned.
The old location will operate until April 14th — the new place will open April 25th. The corner property of today's Zippys is in the hands of "Uni- Bank," the future of the site uncertain.
DELRIDGE
COUNCIL — CALL
FOR A HIGHLAND PARK REP
Delridge District Council (DDC) is the body we go to for input and funding
sources. The area served is bounded by Roxbury south, Holden north,
35th Ave west, and W. Marginal east. Mike Shilley has been attending
meetings there; he suggested we find an experienced business person
willing to donate one evening a month to represent our interests (includes
taking advantage of City funding opportunities) and report back. Maybe
a retiree?
At the recent DDC annual planning retreat, volunteer
representatives from HP Improvement Club (Rhonda Smith) and HPAC (Mike
Shilley) sat on their "Neighborhood Outreach Committee." HPIC
& HPAC are planning their own outreach, with special emphasis on
immigrant neighbors. We would like to hear from neighbors who already
have their block organized, whether for social or safety reasons, to
avail them of our program tools. Please contact the secretary, Mike
Shilley. The full report of the DDC retreat is also available

HPAC
— NAME CHANGE PROPOSAL
Dina Johnson again presented a proposal to change the org's name, explaining
why it is inaccurate (not a committee) and limits our ability
to seem inclusive, grow, and outreach. The current multi-faceted org
is different in purpose and scope from that of the founders (addressing
a specific neighborhood problem).

A general discussion followed. In the end, a majority agreed with these points:

The Action Committee should be retained within the organization, a "brand name" as an effective public advocacy organization after the successful City Jail opposition. (Other committees could be formed as needed, such as an Outreach Committee.)

We should go forward with exploring new names for the general organization. Many prefer a name that would keep the acronym HPAC, others a more broad encompassing name.

Although several possible new names were mentioned, it was proposed and decided to use "Survey Monkey" to solicit more ideas for the name. This would be publicized through the mailing list and the HPAC website (this one) for several weeks before the next meeting. Dina Johnson, Diane T. and Deanie Schwarz offered to help create this survey.

At the March 23rd meeting, attendees will vote on the proposed names, whittling it down to a final winner.
The meeting was adjourned at 8.25 pm. Next meeting: Wed. March 23rd. Pot luck 6.30, meeting 7pm.
